As November finishes and December begins, I stand in my cabin, contemplating the darkness of Jodhpur. Today is one of those days when I surrender to the darkness and let my inner anguish overtake me. The last two weeks have been stressful for both me and my family. My father, Hukum Devendra Singh Raghuvanshi, hasn't been doing well for the previous two months, but the last few weeks have been extremely stressful and dangerous, and I almost lost him. My mother, Hukum Rani Laxmi Singh Raghuvanshi, took care of my home and business while I was abroad in Italy.
I returned soon after receiving a call from my brother, Akshat Singh Raghuvanshi, a professional industrialist. He is four years older than me and the twin of my princess sister, Akshara Singh Raghuvanshi. Akshat has recently launched his business in Jaipur, where he aims to showcase local craftsmen's work and designs on a greater scale. His commitment and hard work have helped him make his firm one of the top-selling manufacturing industries in India, selling the finest crafts from Jaipur and surrounding areas all over the world. Akshara is still in her final year of college studying fashion design, and she appears to be confident in her chosen decision. He has already begun visiting Akshat's sector to get ideas for her design projects and hopes to create a design studio that may be considered one of the greatest in the country, and why not? My siblings, Akshat and Akshara, are the driving force behind these efforts.
Besides these two darlings, I have three more people who are equally important and precious to me. My bodyguard, my PA, and my best friend, Abhiman, Rajveer, and Samrat, respectively. These three are the reasons why Adheer Singh Raghuvanshi is still alive and untouched after several attacks and plotting by my so-called enemies. They have knackered everyone who has eyed me or my family for any matter. Let me give you a brief introduction to these three quickly.
Abhiman's full name is Abhiman Pratap. When I was about ten years old, my father bought him from a shelter where his own father had abandoned him. He'd never had his own family. His mother died while giving birth to him, which was why his father hated him to the core. When he was old enough to understand things, his father abandoned him at a shelter house. At the moment, he was twelve years old. Yes, he is two years older than me yet still innocent. He has had my back since we met as children. I vividly remember the day I stopped him from tumbling down a cliff while we were on a picnic. Both of my parents were quite concerned about him, and he eventually saw how important he is to us. That day, he made a promise to me that he has kept to this day: he would save and protect me like a big brother. But wait a minute, he is just innocent in the eyes of my parents. That is it. He's a beast in disguise. When he chose to protect me like a shield, he also opted to outfit himself with a variety of combat tactics and equipment. He is a karate champion, experienced boxer, and athlete. His physique is robust, and he is far too popular with the girls. In conclusion, Abhiman is my Abhiman. He is my pride, and I know that as long as he is with me, death will think twice before coming near me.
Let's go on to Rajveer, my personal assistant. His full name is Rajveer Maheswari. His father is a banker in Trivandrum, while his mother is a homemaker. He arrived to Kota to study at IIT, but was caught up in one of his seniors' horrible pranks. They accused him of cheating in his examinations and advised him to abandon his plans to attend IIT in the future since he was much too brilliant for them. Coincidentally, my father is a trustee at the college where he was doing his examinations. When he found out about it, he enquired about it, and he realized he was the perfect person to be my right hand. My father offered him two options: punish them and continue seeking IIT for the rest of his life, or punish them and join us. He chose the second option, and his life transformed. I initially met him while doing my MBA in London. He is clever, without a question, and his mental focus occasionally makes me envy. Just joking. I blindly believe him because I know he is always correct, and I suppose that is enough for me. By the way, his mother makes the most delicious dosa in the world (but don't tell my mother).
Finally, there's Samrat Raichand, my better half. The third participant in this game. Samrat and I have known each other since childhood. We're nursery mates, and he knows me better than I do. His father, Keshav Raichand, was a navy officer and my father's college closest friend. Samrat was just seven years old when his father passed away. His mother, Bhavya Raichand, was a daughter of the royal district in Rajasthan, hence he was positioned as Kunwar of Pratapgarh. After his maternal grandfather, Kunwar Jagdeep Raichand, passed away two years ago, he received the title as the new Kunwar of Pratapgarh, receiving guidance on politics and royal duties. Since then, he has held justice in his own hands. He has his own manner of serving and appreciating it. And don't forget that he is engaged. Yes, he's engaged to Sonakshi. No, we're sorry, classmates. Sonakshi was our graduating batchmate, and they have been in a relationship ever since. Sonakshi's family is middle-class, yet Samrat has little choice but to follow her because she knows how difficult Samrat can be at times. By the way, Samrat, like me, has a sweet and gorgeous sister, Nandini, who, like Akshara, is the apple of our eyes, and a brother, Naksh, who, like Akshat, causes trouble.
My existence centres on these few people. Now it's time to tell you about me. I'm Adheer Singh Raghuvanshi, the son of Hukum Devendra Singh Raghuvanshi and Laxmi Singh Raghuvanshi, and the grandson of Bade Hukum Adhiraj Singh Raghuvanshi and Shanti Singh Raghuvanshi. My family is among the oldest royal families in Rajasthan. Mordernization has occurred, and the royalty is no longer limited to being a Hukum; I am now the world's biggest businessman. I own different properties and lands all over the world, and by varied, I mean practically everywhere, with the exception of space, of course. My duties and responsibilities never allowed me to enjoy a simple, everyday existence. My father was crowned Hukum at the age of 25, and he is now over 60. He committed his whole life to preserve the dignity and royalty of this position, and he expects me to do the same. In the coming days, I will be legally and formally the Hukum of Rajasthan, and that alone gives me shivers. I need to double my labour and commitment since, on the one hand, I have to manage the entire state as well as the large business that I started on my own, which has given me my own personality. I am not just Hukum Adheer Singh Raghuvanshi, but also the mighty Adheer Singh Raghuvanshi, the most well-known business billionaire.
Speaking of my grandparents, Daadu and Daadi, they no longer live with us owing to their spiritual journey, which began when they eventually turned over all rights to my father. They presently reside in Hrishikesh in our own Haveli, alongside my cousin Daadu's family. My cousin, Daadu Rajeshwar Agnihotri, was my daadu's closest buddy. So that's why we name him Daadu as well. He and his wife, one boy who is almost my age, and a daughter live with my Daadu and Daadi. I've never had an issue with them—at least not with Daadu and Daadi—but I'm not very comfortable around their children. Even my people, Akshat, Akshara, Abhiman, Rajveer, and Samrat, appear uneasy when they are near them. It might be because they always wear a phony grin, and these famous five hate phoniness.
Ever since Dad has not kept well, Mumma has been on top of her heels to get me married. I am 30 now and, okay, not to brag, may be the most eligible bachelor as well. Since I have returned from Italy knowing Dad's health, Mumma has shown me pictures of more than 30 girls from various reputed families who are ready to be my wife, even if I say yes by mistake. My marriage topic is one of the hottest topics in the country these days, all thanks to Rajveer, who actually put up my image on the front page of the Times with the caption "From Boardroom to Wedding Bells: Adheer Singh Raghuvanshi Seeks a Partner to Share the Spotlight." And ever after I saw this type of embarrassing deed, he has been working a double shift. However, it was not his fault. My mother's kitty party buddy, Maya Aunty, who runs a matrimonial site by the way, advised this heinous deed to her. Although no major damage was done, her company's stock fell dramatically, and she is now in debt. Thank you again, Rajveer.
My phone rang as I was deep in thinking. I recognized Mumma on the phone.
"Hello beta, kaha hai aap?"
"Hello, Mumma. I'm at the office. How is Dad?
" At the moment, he is missing you. He's not taking his medicine without you. So, what did you decide?"
"I'm OK, Mumma. You are free to proceed with whatever decision you have made. Just inform Dad that this is the last time I would fall into his dirty games."
"Okay, goodbye, beta. I've also sent you food via Abhiman. Have it. Good night. "I love you."
"I love you, Mumma, and I hate you, Dad."
As soon as I hung up the phone and turned around, I noticed my two Chums there with three tiffin bags. They spotted me but ignored me like I was the crust of a pizza. They walked to my cabin's area, which is more like a small apartment with a modest but magnificent living room, a spacious kitchen and dining room and a luxury bedroom with an attached bathroom. I followed them, cleaned my hands and face, and arrived at the dining table, where the tiffin was open and the aroma of the meal was already luring me.My mother knows how to sweeten me up. There was Rajma, roti, jeera rice, aaloo gobhi, my fave kachumber salad, mirch ka achar, and Ghewar to enjoy afterwards.
I was going to take up my plate when Abhiman crossed his hands in front of me, pulled out another roti from the casserole, and began eating hungrily. Mumma advises we shouldn't count the rotis while eating them, yet he had four in ten minutes. How hungry are these two?
My eyes shifted to Rajveer, who was nibbling the kachumber salad with Rajma. I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and then whispered, "I guess you two get enough payment from me to eat your food outside in a lavish hotel."
They both stared at me, blinked twice, and then resumed eating like hungry animals. At this point, I realised what I had to submit to them, so I eventually said,
"I have agreed to my marriage."
"You did what; we didn't listen properly," Abhiman remarked, stuffing his mouth with the final piece of roti.
"I said yes to my marriage, you idiots, and now shoot me for doing this." I repeated it loudly, cupped my face in my palms, and bent down.
"Did you say yes to the same girl whose wedding proposal arrived last week? That family has a history with Daadu." Rajveer enquired while combining rice with Rajma.
"Yes, it's the same family. Their parents recognise Daddu as a neighbour. I'm not sure whether there's any relationship. Daadu had been friends with this girl's grandpa, and now they've proposed marriage to me." I mentioned this while getting some dinner for myself.
"What's the name of the girl?" Abhiman enquired, and I was totally tuned off. I don't know the family's name either, and he's referring to the girl. "I do not know. Tomorrow I'll go home and figure out what's going on. Till then, please let me eat my dinner, and Abhiman Pratap, do you dare to touch this ghewar alone? " I gripped Abhiman's hand as he prepared to touch the ghewar.
The following several hours were spent routinely. We completed our meal, discussed some business, and then proceeded to the conference room for our meeting. It was 3 a.m., and owing to time zone variations, I had to stay at my workplace for this deal. But my whole focus was distracted as I suddenly realised that I had agreed to my marriage. Marriage, but with whom?
That's our Adheer for you.
